Examples of Good and Bad Interfaces

For 17-770/46-863: Introduction to Human Computer Interaction for Technology Executives

For the class on Tuesday, October 3, each person will present in class an example of one good and one bad user interface. This should be something you can show off to the class. It can be a part of an application (like the Track-changes feature of Word), the user interface for a device (like some part of a digital camera), or some part of a web site. It is OK if the good and bad aspects are from the same product. Everyone should pick different products to talk about, so please email your choices to the professor so they can be filled in below. First come, first choice!

Each person should be prepared to show their choice in class, and what they think is good and bad about it. You can either demonstrate your system from your laptop or mine. If it is a physical device, please take pictures or a movie of it, so everyone can see, and bring it in if possible. Try to use the correct terminology when describing advantages and disadvantages (e.g., Nielsen's heuristics). Each person will have five (5) minutes to present both systems, so be sure you don't need to waste time bringing them up.

This will count as part of the "in-class participation" portion of your overall grade.
